The Department of Mysticism at the Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute organized two preparatory scholarly sessions within the framework of the International Conference on Islamic Humanities, held in commemoration of Allameh Mohammad-Taqi Mesbah Yazdi and the Day of Islamic Humanities.
The sessions aimed to critically examine contemporary intellectual currents in Latin America and to explore prospects for academic exchange between Iran and the countries of the region.
The first session, titled “Liberation Theology and Social Spirituality: A Critical Reappraisal and Contemporary Perspectives in Latin America,” was held on September 17, 2025, at San Francisco Church in Caracas. The keynote speaker was Numa Molina, a Jesuit priest and liberation philosopher from Venezuela, and the session was chaired by Seyyed Mohammadreza MirYousefi. Discussions focused on the socio-cultural context for the formation of liberation theology, contemporary approaches, and the feasibility of comparative studies with Islamic humanities.
The second session, titled “The Status and Prospects of the Humanities in Latin America: Critical Examination and Contemporary Approaches,” was held on September 20, 2025. The keynote speaker was Luis Alberto Vítor, an Argentine philosopher and theologian. Key areas of discussion included an assessment of intellectual movements, institutional challenges, and opportunities for academic collaboration between Iran and Latin America.
Both sessions were made available online for interested audiences.
