The book Große Gelehrte der persischen Zivilisation (Great Scientists of Iranian Civilization) has been published in Austria with the support of the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vienna and by Unidialogue Publishing. This 160‑page volume, edited by Reza Gholami (faculty member of the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies), introduces for the first time a comprehensive collection of Iranian scholars to European audiences in the German language.

Developed with a historical and analytical approach, the book draws upon both primary and secondary sources. It examines the lives, works, and achievements of Iranian scholars from the eighth to the early sixteenth century CE—a period commonly referred to as the “Golden Age of Iranian–Islamic Science.” During this era, Iranian thinkers contributed significantly in fields such as astronomy, mathematics, medicine, philosophy, chemistry, and the natural sciences, influencing both Islamic civilization and the scientific developments of Europe and beyond.

Among the prominent figures highlighted are al‑Khwarizmi, Avicenna (Ibn Sīnā), Zakariyyā al‑Rāzī, al‑Bīrūnī, Naṣīr al‑Dīn al-Ṭūsī, ʿUmar Khayyām, and Shaykh Bahāʾī. In addition to presenting biographical accounts, the book also reflects the Iranian scientific tradition, in which knowledge, ethics, and spirituality were integrated, thereby shaping the intellectual heritage of Iran.
