The book, From Monarchy to Republicanism: The Experience of Nation-State Building in Contemporary Iran (Volume I: Safavid to Pahlavi), authored by Dr. Mehdi Siavashi, has been published in Persian by Imam Hossein Comprehensive University Press.
This research work, situated within the fields of political sociology and the history of political developments in Iran, examines the process of nation-state building in Iran from the Safavid era through the end of the Pahlavi period. In elucidating his conceptual framework, the author redefines the concept of “nation” as a political and territorial community emerging from a shared consciousness. Alongside objective components such as language, religion, geography, ethnicity, and traditions, the author emphasizes the fundamental and decisive role of “unified collective will” in the formation of national identity and the exercise of sovereignty.
